Registered Training Organisation (RTO)

Training providers or Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are vocational education organisations that provides students with training that results in qualifications and statements of attainment that are recognised and accepted by industry and other educational institutions throughout Australia. Only RTOs can deliver accredited training and assessment and issue AQF qualifications. Their ongoing compliance with the AQTF is audited by either the national or their state VET Regulator. RTOs are registered to deliver qualifications in nominated Training Packages. The register of RTOs and the qualifications each is accredited to deliver is found on the National Training Information Service (NTIS).

Public (government) Provider - TAFE

TAFE is a government-owned and nationally operated system of colleges offering qualifications that are recognized and transferable internationally. The focus in TAFE is on hands-on, practical training with key competencies worked into every course that are thought to be essential for people entering the workforce. TAFE Institutes and Colleges in Australian Capital Territory (ACT) The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is the largest provider of vocational education and training in Australia’s capital. CIT offers over 450 programs across five faculties to local, national and international students to meet the changing needs of business and industry.

TAFE NT Charles Darwin University is a dual sector university, so you can study higher education (bachelor degrees to doctorates) and vocational education and training (VET) courses, from certificate I to advanced diploma level.

TAFE NSW is Australia's largest vocational education and training provider with more than 500,000 enrolments each year.

TAFE Queensland is the premier provider of flexible and responsive training. TAFE training meets the vocational and business needs of individuals, employers and the community.

TAFE SA institutes form the largest provider of vocational education and training in South Australia. More than 78,000 students study at TAFE SA each year, developing their skills for the workplace or further study.

TAFE TAS is the state’s only institute for technical and further education TAFE Tasmania is nowadays represented by more than 30 campuses. TAFE Tasmania – with its about 35.000 students and over 450 courses on offer – is the largest registered training organisation in the state.

TAFES in VIC as opposed to the other states has no institution that combines all TAFEs under its roof, no such thing as “TAFE Victoria” exists. Each TAFE institute enjoys an independent status and is only marginally controlled by a state regulator. All in all, there are 18 different institutions throughout Victoria, education some 425.000 people in about 1.600 courses.
